Australian specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Italian brand’s first SUV officially goes on sale from March 20, priced from $65,900 plus on-road costs.
 
Initially, the Stelvio will be offered with two powertrain options. The first is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of 148kW of power and 330Nm of torque. Alfa Romeo quotes a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 7.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 215 km/h. The fuel consumption figure is listed at 7.0/100 on the combined cycle.
 
The second engine option is a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine which develops 154kW/470Nm. The oiler is slightly faster to 100km/h, taking 6.6 seconds while sharing the same top speed as the petrol car. Consumption comes in at 4.8L/100km travelled on the combined cycle.
 
Both engines are also built in Italy and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the Q4 all-wheel-drive system.
 
The Stelvio will be looking for keen drivers with its near perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
 
Exterior highlights of the Stelvio include alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights, chrome-plated window frames and courtesy lights on the door handles. A selection of 11 body colours is available to choose from.
 
Internally the proportions are generous with highlights including a cockpit crafted around the driver with a diagonal tunnel and smart curved dashboard, a contoured leather-wrapped steering wheel with an integrated start button, aluminium shift paddles, electrically adjustable leather seats, an 8.8-inch high-resolution display with the next-generation 3D navigation system.
 
The infotainment system also allows real-time management vehicle’s performance, as well as access to the DAB radio and Bluetooth streaming audio.
 
Safety is taken care of by way of the autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
 
To spice up the Stelvio a Veloce option pack is available for $5000 which brings 19-inch alloys, aluminium interior trim, aluminium sports pedals, black painted roof rails, frequency-selective dampers, heated sport front seats with power bolster, heated sport steering wheel and red brake calipers.
 
At launch, a Stelvio First Edition will be available, limited to 200 diesels and 100 petrols with $8000 worth of additional equipment.
 
First Edition variants include the contents of the Veloce option pack, a panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass and a 14-speaker 900W Harman Kardon premium sound system. The First Edition is available in five colours – Alfa Red, Alfa White, Vulcano Black, Vesuvio Grey and Stromboli Grey.
