Australian specifications and pricing has been announced for the 2018 BMW 2 Series LCI coupe and convertible range.
The 2018 model year will feature revised styling and tech upgrades, however, they come at a cost, prices are up $1100 to $2190 depending on the variant. Before on-road costs, the coupe range will start at $52,900 while getting into a convertible will require a cheque for $59,900.
Exterior changes include revised LED lighting Bi-LED headlights in the 220i and 230i, while Adaptive LEDs are standard fare for the M240i M Performance models.
Front fog lights are standard on all models, as is one-piece LED tail lights shaped in an ‘L’ formation.
Four new alloy wheel options are available and a choice of ten exterior colours with Seaside Blue metallic, Mediterranean Blue metallic and the lairy Sunset Orange metallic added to the palette.
The interior will now get the iDrive6 infotainment system, after debuting in the new 5 Series earlier in 2017, the technology is now spreading through the BMW range. There’s also a restyled instrument cluster. To access a touch screen, BMW’s Navigation System Professional (standard on 230i and M240i) needs to be optioned on the 220i.
To improve cabin ambience, some new stitching designs have been used along with Pearl Chrome trim finishers. Unfortunately, the interior will have a centre console covered in high-gloss black, which is impossible to keep scratch free.
Engines have been carried over, the 220i is powered by a 135kW/270Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, while the 230i gets a 2.0-litre tuned to develop 185kW/350Nm. The M240i models will use BMW’s excellent 3.0-litre turbo inline-six with 250kW/500Nm.
All 2 Series models have power sent to the rear wheels through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. For purists wanting to risk spilling their latte, BMW does offer the option of a manual transmission at no extra cost.
