Australian specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 BMW X2, the Bavarian brand’s newest SUV, which starts at $55,900 plus on-road costs.
Hitting showrooms from March this year, the new X2 is based on the same platform as the X1 and will be available in front-wheel drive sDrive20i guise when it first arrives.
The X2 is shorter (4360mm), wider (1824mm) and lower (1526mm) than the X1, however, both cars utilise a 2670mm wheelbase.
Exterior aesthetics are established firstly with the classic BMW double kidney grille taking pride of place above a deep hexagonal air dam section. For the first time and exclusive to the X2, the bottom section of the kidney grille is wider than the top. The BMW roundel makes its return to the c-pillar and an athletic side shoulder line moves from the front to the rear.
At the rear, there are L-shaped LED tail lights, two exhaust pipes, an integrated M spoiler and tailgate operation integrated into the BMW logo.
Inside sees the continuation of the familiar driver-focussed orientation as well as a spacey cabin with premium materials and finishes.
Premium materials include Alcantara interior upholstery with colour-contrast stitching on the centre console and instrument panel.
An interior lighting package offering six lighting options is standard and a new instrument cluster now features Black Panel technology.
Another standard inclusion is the latest iDrive6 infotainment system which includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen display or an 8.8-inch screen is an option.
Also a standard inclusion for the first time is the M Sport X model line which brings contrasting lower exterior cladding in Frozen Grey, extended Frozen Grey horizontal sections to the front bumper, satinised aluminium exterior and style ‘722 M’ Orbit Grey 19-inch light alloy wheels to the exterior and the Cloth/Alcantara interior trim is highlighted by yellow contrast stitching on the interior.
Included in the no-cost M Sport Package is the exterior M Aerodynamics Package, ‘715 M’ 19-inch light alloy wheels in Orbit Grey, Dark Shadow Exterior inserts for the outside and contrasting blue interior stitching with the aluminium Hexagon interior trims in a Blue matte finish for the inside.
The X2 sDrivei will initially be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine capable of 141kW/280Nm matched with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Available from March 2018, the all-new 2018 BMW X2 sDrive20i will be priced from $55,900 plus on-road costs.
