Australian specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 BMW X3 M40i, the performance variant of the new X3 range is due to arrive in July with a price of $99,900 plus on-road costs.
The X3 M40i is all about the engine, up front sits a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six generating 265kW of power and 500Nm of torque with the latter available from only 1520rpm.
Power is sent to the adaptive M xDrive all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.
BMW claims the X3 M40i can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 4.8 seconds, while the combined consumption figure comes in at 8.9L/100km.
In order to give the X3 M40i some dynamic capabilities, it will feature 50:50 weight distribution.
Standard equipment includes BMW’s lauded Adaptive M suspension, M Sport brakes with blue-painted calipers and 21-inch light alloy wheels dressed in mixed run-flat tyres, measuring 245/40/R21 on the front axle, and 275/35/R21 at the rear.
The exterior will feature adaptive LED headlights, LED fog lights and tail lights.
The M Aerodynamics Package which includes a roof-mounted wing, body trim elements finished in Cerium Grey and bold black chrome tailpipe embellishers are also standard.
On the inside, the X3 M40i is well appointed, Vernasca leather trim, front-row seat heating, lumbar support, Anthracite headliner, M steering wheel, 16-speaker harman/kardon system and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen powered by iDrive6 are all standard.
Additionally, a 12.3-inch high-resolution colour screen takes the place of the traditional instrument cluster.
Driving Assistant Plus is included which brings active cruise control with stop & go function, front cross-traffic warning, steering & lane control and lane keeping assistant with side collision warning.
Parking Assistant Plus, including parking assistant with park distance control and a surround view camera system, is also fitted as standard.
