In a move to address a 22 per cent drop in i30 sales in 2017, Hyundai has added a new entry-level variant, the i30 Go, starting at $19,990 before on-road costs.
Despite the i30 being Australia’s best selling car in October with 3983 sales, overall figures are some 7000 units down YTD. The previous generation i30 enjoyed sharp drive-away pricing deals and the higher cost of the new model was always going to make it difficult to maintain similar volume.
The i30 Go slides in under the Active variant but still features the same design and safety features at the lower cost.
The signature Cascading Grille, aerodynamic rear spoiler and new 10-spoke wheel cover design will be found on the i30 Go.
The i30 Go also comes with one of two engines, the first a 120kW/203Nm 2.0-litre GDi petrol engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The second offering is a 100kW/280Nm 1.6-litre CRDi diesel which is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT).
Technology features found in the i30 Go include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming as well as AUX and USB inputs with iPod compatibility. The i30 Go does lose the satellite navigation found in the Active.
An optional safety pack will be available early next year which will add autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
2018 Hyundai i30 Go pricing (excluding on-road costs):
i30 Go petrol – $19,990/$22,290 (6MT, 6AT)
i30 Go diesel – $22,490/$24,990 (6MT, 7DCT)
