Australian specifications and pricing have been revealed for the new fourth-generation 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, the seven-seat SUV is on sale now from $43,000 plus on-road costs.

Hyundai is staying true to form by offering the Santa Fe in three trim levels – Active, Elite and Highlander.

The entry-level Active is the only petrol powered variant in the range. For $43,000 (all prices before on-road costs), buyers can get the Active with a 2.4-litre petrol engine that develops 138kW of power and 241Nm of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to all four wheels.

The Active can also be purchased with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that stumps up 147kW and 440Nm. This is the same engine that powers the Elite and Highlander models. All diesel variants get Hyundai’s new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai has resisted the urge to offer a cheaper front-wheel drive model. All Santa Fe variants feature Hyundai’s own HTRAC on-demand all-wheel drive system. The system is said to be more responsive and can direct up to 50 per cent of the available torque to the rear.

Active models are equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic dusk-sensing headlamps and LED daytime running lights, rear-view camera and a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Moving to the Elite adds 18-inch alloy wheels, bumper and door finishers in satin chrome, a carbon-effect front grille, powered tailgate and folding wing mirrors.

On the inside, the Elite gets leather trim, electrically adjustable front seats with heating, keyless entry and push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, rear window shades, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation.

At the business end of the range, the Highlander is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, LED interior lighting, head-up display, 360-degree surround-view monitor and an automatic parking assistant.

Highlander buyers also get some additional luxuries in the form of heated and ventilated front seats, driver’s seat memory, heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats and wireless phone charging.

Every Santa Fe gets a comprehensive list of safety tech including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, high beam assist and adaptive cruise control with stop and go.
