Specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Infiniti Q50 range, more equipment has been added across the range, while the diesel option has been dropped.

The 2018 range opens with the 2.0t GT priced from $54,900 (all prices before on-roads). Power comes from a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developing 155kW of power and 350Nm of torque, it’s matched to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Standard features on the 2.0t GT include 18-inch alloy wheels, leather accented trim, Around View Monitor with 360-degree view, active lane control and parking sensors for the front and rear. Buyers can opt for the 2.0t GT with a sunroof, this pushes the price to $56,890.

Moving up to the Sport Premium adds 19-inch alloys, front sports seats, sports suspension, and BOSE audio. There is also a comprehensive safety packing that includes blind spot warning, lane departure warning, predictive forward collision warning, forward emergency braking and back-up collision intervention.

The Sport Premium trim level is also available with a hybrid drivetrain. The 3.5-litre hybrid system produces 268kW and 546Nm. The hybrid offers a choice of rear wheel or all-wheel drive. The latter costs an additional $2000.

If you enjoy a tan and aren’t that concerned about polar bears, the 3.0t packs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine developing 224kW of power and 400Nm of torque. This engine is only available in Sport Premium specification.

The range-topping 3.0t Red Sport uses the same engine, however, it’s tuned to deliver 298kW and 475Nm. The Red Sport is identifiable by dark chrome wheels, black rear boot spoiler and a quilted graphite leather interior with red stitching.

All 2018 Q50 variants have a new front and rear facia, new steering wheel design and a new sports gear level.

The biggest addition to the Q50 range is Direct Adaptive Steering, a steer-by-wire system that Infiniti claims is a “precursor to future steering systems that will form a key building block on the way to achieving fully autonomous driving.”

Direct Adaptive Steering allows drivers to tailor the response and feel of the steering system to suit their preferences. There is flexibility to select the desired level of steering assistance and feedback. Cleverly, the system can also manipulate the steering ratio and effort according to vehicle speed and scene.
