Some important details have been released for the upcoming 2018 Jaguar I-PACE electric SUV.

Jaguar claims the I-PACE will feature rapid charging technology meaning the SUV is capable of charging from zero to 80 per cent charge in less than 45 minutes, using a DC 100kW charger.

For comparison, Tesla’s Model S and Model X electric vehicles equipped with a 100kW battery can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in under 30 minutes using the Supercharger network.

Jaguar also promises its first all-electric model will offer sports car performance and SUV practicality that makes it the perfect daily driver.

Ian Hoban, Jaguar Vehicle Line Director said, “Not only will the I-PACE charge quickly enough for our customers to carry out their everyday lives, it will offer powerful and precise performance in a variety of conditions and climatic extremes. Allied with the versatile credentials of our celebrated PACE family, this will be an electric performance SUV like no other.”

The I-PACE has endured extreme weather testing, most recently at Jaguar Land Rover’s cold weather test facility in Arjeplog, Sweden, at temperatures as low as -40°C.

I-PACE buyers will be able to use mains power to prepare the car’s battery and cabin temperature ahead of a journey. Taking the time to pre-condition the car ensures maximum range, performance and comfort whether temperatures are freezing cold or extremely hot.

A smartphone app or the on-board InControl system will allow owners to set up preferred charging times and pre-conditioning schedules.

The Jaguar I-PACE will be revealed on March 1, with a public debut scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia Product Public Affairs Manager James Scrimshaw told Car Conversation, Australian specifications and pricing information should be available sometime in March.
