The Los Angeles motor show has seen the covers come off the 2018 Lexus RX L, a new RX variant capable of seating seven.
The seven-seat RX will be available as either an RX350L (petrol) or RX450hL (hybrid).
Cleverly, Lexus has extended the rear of the RX by 110mm and utilised a steeper tailgate window angle to ensure adequate space for third-row passengers and luggage.
Lexus boldly claims, the 60/40 split-fold third row can accommodate both child seats and adults. The rear-most seats have been designed to provide occupants with comparable levels of comfort and luxury as found in the middle row.
Passengers in the third-row will get separate rear air-conditioning and dedicated vents as well as a pair of cupholders.
The RX350L will be powered by a 3.5-litre 216kW/357Nm V6 matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. There’s also the choice of front or all-wheel drive.
The RX450hL utilises the Lexus Hybrid Drive system which pairs the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with two electric drive motor-generators, delivering a total power 230kW.
Full Australian specification and pricing for RX L will be announced closer to the February 2018 launch.
