The news has arrived that the all-new 2018 Peugeot 5008 seven-seat SUV has officially launched in Australia with a complete overhaul from tyre to roofline.
Built on new Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) which is also used for the Peugeot 308 hatch and 3008 SUV (review coming soon), Peugeot is hoping the light yet strong underpinning will translate to nimble handling whilst allowing for a third row in the bigger SUV.
Speaking of size, the new 5008 comes in at 4641mm long, 1844mm wide and 1646mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2840mm with a large boot space of 780 litres.
New to the 5008 is the inclusion of the latest i-Cockpit infotainment which is further enhanced in the GT-Line and GT models with Amplify ambience which brings an inbuilt diffuser, lighting, driver massage, drive mode and ambience settings which are all customisable.
For added convenience, each of the three second-row seats can be folded, tilted or moved independently of the others. Each of the second-row seats also offers ISOFIX and top tether child seat fixing points allowing for three child seats to be fitted. Third-row seats can also be removed for more boot space.
Three trim levels are offered on the 2018 Peugeot 5008, the entry-level Allure, sportier GT-Line and range-topping GT.
Allure models benefit from exterior features including chrome and black headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) at the front with chrome highlights for the glass house and black lower wheel guards.
GT Line and GT models feature a bespoke front bumper and lights, an amplified sporty engine note as well as exclusive interior trim, red instrument illumination and exclusive GT-Line or GT badging.
For the GT model, further improvements extend to firmer steering, altered throttle mapping, sharper gear changes, firmer suspension and a larger wheel and tyre combination.
Safety is taken care of by way of a full suite of safety equipment including standard autonomous emergency braking, 360-degree surround cameras and curtain airbags which extend through to the third row.
Two drivetrains are available under the bonnet with the Allure and GT-Line models powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of 121kW/240Nm whilst the GT variants exclusively get the 2.0-litre diesel with a stop & start system capable of 133kW/400Nm. Both engines are of course Euro-6 compliant and are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2018 Peugeot 5008 is available around Australia now.
