Local details have been released for the 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T, a stripped down, purist version of the base 911.

The ‘T’ stands for Touring which means the car needs to optimise handling by shedding weight. Noise deadening materials have been reduced, as has the rear seats, not that they were overly useful anyway. The rear window and rear side windows are made from lightweight glass and there are no door handles.

All these measures combine to shave a mere 20kg over the standard car, the 911 Carrera T tips the scales at 1,425kg.

The best bits remain, power comes from the familiar 3.0-litre turbocharged flat six developing 272kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a short ratio manual transmission. If you prefer not to risk spilling your latte, Porsche’s PDK automatic can be optioned.

Porsche claims the manual version, with a mechanical differential lock, can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. A staggering 0.1 seconds faster than the 911 Carrera Coupe. The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) can do it in 4.2 seconds. Both transmission options allow a top speed of 290km/h.

The exterior of the 911 Carrera T is identified by a front lip spoiler, Sport Design exterior mirrors in Agate Grey Metallic, 20-inch Carrera S wheels in Titan Grey and a standard sports exhaust system with central black tailpipes.

Exterior colour choices are Black, Lava Orange, Guards Red, Racing Yellow, White and Miami Blue, as well as metallic colours Carrara White, Jet Black and GT Silver.

The interior of the 911 Carrera T will feature four-way, electric sports seats with Sport-Tex fabric in the centre, while the headrests feature a stitched “911” logo.

The 911 Carrera T is priced from $238,400 plus on-road costs in Australia with local deliveries expected to commence in the second quarter of 2018.
