Skoda Australia has announced the permanent addition of the powerful 2018 Octavia RS245 performance variant to the Octavia range.
The RS245 is touted as the fastest Octavia outdoing the previously limited edition 2016 Octavia RS230. The new car is aiming to build on the RS name by offering fresh styling, upgraded equipment and track-focused performance and technology.
Driving the RS245, and the source of its name, is the 245 horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Translated that is 180kW of power and 370Nm of torque which propels the car from a standstill to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds and 6.7 seconds for the sedan and wagon respectively. Completing the powertrain is the option of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG transmission, both available in either body style.
Further affirming the race-car ready notion of the Octavia RS245 is the inclusion of an electronically controlled, limited-slip differential which allows greater traction and stability in cornering manoeuvres at speed.
Director of Skida Australia, Mr Michael Irmer, said of the fastest-ever Octavia: "Skoda has always stood for getting more car for your money, which is easily observed in the new Octavia range. With this new, high-performance Octavia RS245, Australian fans will not just see 'more car', they're going to feel it too."
In terms of ‘more car’ the RS245 gains, over other Octavia siblings, leather and Alcantara-trimmed sports trim, electrically adjustable front seats, memory driver seat as well as folding and dimming door mirrors featuring environmental lights.
Styling and design features which differentiate the RS245 from the rest of the pack include 19-inch 'Xtreme' black allow wheels, black exhaust pipe outlets, RS245 instrument cluster and RS245 door inserts.
Four colours will be available, Corrida Red, Steel Grey, the metallic Moon White and the Pearl Effect Black Magic.
As with other Skoda Octavia vehicles, there are optional packages available for customers who want a bit more bang for their buck on their RS245.
The 2018 Octavia RS245 will come standard with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and roadside assist as well as capped price servicing. It will join the existing Octavia and Octavia RS range in Skoda dealerships this month.

Includes Automatic Parking Assist, Adaptive Chassis Control, Advanced Keyless Entry including Smart Start (KESSY) and alarm, a premium 10-speaker Canton Sound System and Manoeuvre Braking Assist.
Luxury Pack - $1,500
Includes Lane Assist, Side Assist with blind spot detection and heated front and rear seats.
Other options include metallic/pearl paint effect at $500, sunroof available for the sedan at $1,500 and for the wagon a panoramic sunroof for $1,700 or automatic boot opening for $500.
