Local specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the 2018 Subaru Liberty, the new model year brings styling changes and additional equipment without any change to the $39,240 starting price.

The exterior gets a revised grille and front bumper design, new wing mirrors, updated alloy wheel designs and LED indicators.

New design LED high and low beam headlights in Liberty 2.5i Premium and 3.6R are integrated with Steering Responsive Headlight (SRH) and the Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) functions.

There’s also a new exterior colour choice, Crimson Red Pearl.

On the inside, the dashboard has been changed and now includes high gloss black surrounds and silver frame. 2.5i Premium and 3.6R variants get a larger 8.0-inch infotainment unit that runs Subaru’s latest software and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Subaru has made a point of mentioning the new steering wheel has a “solid, sporty look.”

Rear passengers haven’t been neglected, two additional USB ports have been installed in the back of the centre console.

The third-generation of Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist system now includes Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and is standard across the range.

Engines have been carried over with the 2.5-litre producing 129kW/235Nm, while the 3.6-litre develops 191kW and 350Nm.

Some changes have been made to the continuously-variable transmission (CVT), it is now calibrated to provide the feel of seven ratios, while the gear selector has been tuned for smoother shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse in an effort to remove the annoying clunk.
