The 2018 Volkswagen Amarok V6 range will have a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, an improvement of 500kg over the current model year.
Engineering changes to the Amarok's rear step setup and the availability of a genuine 3.5 tonne rated towbar have allowed the improvement to the ute’s towing ability.
This increase allows the V6 Amarok to match the segment leaders.
The specs of the V6 engine remain the same, the turbo-diesel will continue to produce 165kW/550Nm.
Marketing Manager, Nick Reid said this update has long been a ‘pet project’ of the Australian Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles team.
"We know that Amarok buyers use their vehicle for work and play. The ability to tow a caravan or a boat is at the very heart of the Amarok, and we're glad that we're able to offer this enhancement to our customers, and their weekends," Mr Reid said.
Volkswagen claims the V6 Amarok range accounted for over 74 per cent of all Amaroks purchased in August.
The four-cylinder Amarok variants remain rated to pull 3000kg.
