Volkswagen Australia has confirmed a 200kW (on overboost) output for the uprated Amarok V6, the revised engine tune will keep the Amarok as the most powerful ute in the class.

The Euro 6 compliant 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine will develop 190kW (200kw on overboost) and 580Nm, up from the current 165kW (180kW on overboost) and 550Nm.

Importantly, if you’re into bar room bragging, the revised engine eclipses the outputs of the upcoming V6 version of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class by 10kW and 30Nm. The Mercedes-Benz X350d will also pack a 3.0-litre diesel engine, it develops 190kW and 550Nm.

Volkswagen Group Australia Director of Commercial Vehicles Carlos Santos said: "As we've promised before, we have no intention of giving up the mantle of the most powerful ute in its class and are looking to offer the upgraded 200kW Amarok V6 later in the year."

Initially, the higher output engine will only be available with the Ultimate trim level.

Pricing and specifications for the uprated Amarok V6 will be available closer to the local launch in the third quarter of 2018.
