Specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon, the brand’s new flagship passenger car that will sit above the Passat.
The single model, the 206TSI R-Line will feature a performance-focused 2.0-litre turbo petrol four with 206kW/350Nm matched with the new seven-speed wet-clutch DSG transmission that sends power to Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain is reported to accelerate the Arteon from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.
New and unique specifications found on the 2018 Arteon include Head-up Display, Area View, Dynamic Light Assist, easy open and close tailgate, 3 Colour Ambient Interior Lighting, Emergency Assist including Emergency Lane Change Assist, Dynamic Indicators, frameless side windows, row 2 heated outer seats, 19-inch Montevideo Alloys (unless option pack is selected), Proactive Occupant Protection (Rear Sensing), Unique Active Info Display theme, unique style of R-Line seats with black carbon Nappa leather upholstery, larger wheelbase for extra interior space and a coupe design with liftback tailgate.
The Discover Pro system includes amplifier with 4 x 20 watts of output power, a DVD drive, a USB port (Apple compatible), two SD card slots, AUX-IN, an SSD drive with 10 GB of storage, a full range of music playback options, a movie player, jukebox, podcast player, as well as navigation and is now operated via gesture control, touch functions and voice control.
Standard equipment highlights also include Active Info Display, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Assist, Park Assist, Adaptive Chassis Control, Driving Profile Selection, power folding door mirrors, massage and memory function for the driver, Discover Pro 9.2" Infotainment System with Gesture Control, App-Connect, keyless access and push-button start as well as tinted (65%) rear windows.
As a flagship model, the Arteon is fully loaded, leaving the only options left to choose being the Sound and Style Package, which adds a Dynaudio Premium Sound System and 20-inch 'Rosario' Dark Graphite alloy wheels for $2500, panoramic glass sunroof for $2500 and metallic or pearl effect paint.
Colour choices for selection include the metallic hues of Pyrite Silver, Manganese Grey, Turmeric Yellow, Chilli Red and Atlantic Blue, the pearl choice of Deep Black or the default colour of Pure White.
The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon 206TSI R-Line will be available for $65,490 excluding on-road costs.
