Local specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Volvo XC40, the brand’s first small SUV is due to arrive in April starting at $47,990 plus on-road costs.
The launch of XC40 also marks the first use of the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) which was co-developed with Chinese company Geely, Volvo’s new owner.
It is also the first model to be available with Volvo’s new 3-cylinder engine, however, it’s not available at launch. Instead, Volvo will offer two engine options - the T5 petrol and D4 diesel.
The T5 petrol is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo unit that develops 185kW of power and 350Nm of torque. The D4 is a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel capable of 140kW and 400Nm.
Each engine will be available in two trim levels – Momentum and R-Design. Interestingly, the Inscription trim level from the larger XC60 isn’t available.
Volvo is yet to confirm the standard equipment lists for each trim level, however, the brand has outlined the inclusions for a pair of launch editions.
Firstly, the Momentum Launch Edition adds (over and above the standard Momentum variant) a sunroof, LED headlights with active bending lights, Harmon Kardon audio system, tinted window, heated front seats, manual cushion extension, 360-degree camera, leather seat upholstery and adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist.
There’s also 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, keyless entry, electric tailgate and an alarm. Volvo claims the Launch Edition extras are valued at $10,120, but only require a $5000 spend.
Stepping up to the R-Design Launch Edition brings (over and above the standard R-Design variant) a sunroof, tinted windows, alarm, heated front seats, 360-degree camera, Harmon Kardon audio system, Park Assist Pilot and adaptive cruise with Pilot Assist.
The value of the R-Design Launch Edition options comes in at $6670, yet it requires less than a $2000 spend over the base version.
Full Australian specifications are due prior to the XC60’s launch next month.
