The new 2019 Audi RS5 Sportback has been revealed at the New York motor show.
Externally the flavour of the new Audi RS5 Sportback combines athleticism with a curvaceous figure. A long wheelbase, short overhangs and wraparound engine cover with power dome exude a dynamic persona.
From the front, the Audi RS5 Sportback features a flat single-frame grille, solid air intakes with a honeycomb structure and a front spoiler with matte aluminium quattro lettering and gloss black design elements.
At the rear of the car is an RS-specific diffuser insert, RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes as well as a fixed spoiler lip.
Standard 19-inch wheels can also be swapped out for optional 20-inch wheels for a little extra coin. Other options include Gloss Black, Carbon and Matte Aluminium optic packages. The exclusive paint option of Sonoma Green Metallic is also offered for the Audi RS5 Sportback.
Internally the Audi RS5 Sportback features RS sport seats with an optional honeycomb pattern in the fine Nappa leather, a flat-bottomed RS multifunctional sports leather steering wheel and RS emblems on the seats, sill panel strips and selector lever add to the sporty look and feel of the cabin.
Contrasting red stitching on the steering wheel and selector lever, the Alcantara knee pads as well as the red-trimmed seat belts and floor mats featuring the RS logo complete the sporty aesthetic.
Special RS informational displays, which are part of the Audi virtual cockpit, provide information such as tyre pressure, torque and G-forces and the shift light display prompts the driver to shift up once the engine speed threshold is reached.
The Audi RS5 Sportback also offers a 480-litre boot capacity which can expand to 1300-litres with the rear seats folded down in a 40:20:40 configuration.
Power comes from a 2.9-litre TFSI V6 twin turbo petrol engine offering 331kW and 600Nm which is transferred to all wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. Power is distributed 40:60 between the front and rear axles. Audi claims the 0 to 100km/h sprint takes only 3.9 seconds.
RS sports suspension is standard though there is the option of RS sport suspension plus which brings Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), ceramic brakes and RS-specific dynamic steering. Drivers can also customise the ride using the standard Audi drive select dynamic handling system.
The 2019 Audi RS5 Sportback is expected to launch locally towards the end of the year with local specifications and pricing anticipated closer to the car’s local arrival.
