The second-generation 2019 BMW X4 has been revealed, the coupe-styled SUV is due to reach Australia towards the end of 2018.
The new generation X4 gets a new exterior look which brings it into line with the recently released X3. Up front, the new X4 gets the latest incarnation of the famous BMW kidney grille, twin LED headlights and horizontal fog lamps.
The updated coupe-style roofline slides into the rear window before reaching a much nicer looking rear end. The use of horizontal lines, LED rear lights with three-dimensional shaping, and twin exhaust tailpipes amplify the car’s width.
Dimensionally, the X4 has grown in length by 81mm to 4,752 millimetres, 54mm has been added to the wheelbase (now 2,864mm) and the car’s width has been extended by 37mm to now reaching 1,918mm.
Despite the increase in size, the X4’s weight is up to 50kg lighter when compared to the outgoing model leading to an improved drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.30. BMW claims the new X4 holds bragging rights for possessing the most efficient aerodynamics in its segment.
There are five new exterior paint colours - Terra Brown, Sparkling Storm, Flamingo Red, Sunstone and Pythonic Blue with an assortment of new alloy wheel designs.
On the inside, the X4 utilises the same dash layout as the X3. There’s a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by iDrive 6. Buyers can also option a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
BMW says the rear offers three full-size seats with more legroom than before, however, the Bavarian maker is yet to reveal how much.
Load space can be expanded from 525 to a maximum of 1,430 litres by folding down the sections of the rear backrest, with its standard 40:20:40 split.
Australian variants, specifications and pricing are yet to be finalised, more information will be released prior the new X4’s local launch later in 2018.
