Australian details have been confirmed for the 2019 BMW X4 range, the coupe-styled SUV is due to arrive in showrooms in the third quarter of 2018 priced from $76,900 plus on-roads.
At launch, BMW will offer four variants of the second-generation X4: the xDrive20i, xDrive20d, xDrive30i and M40i.
Opening the range is the xDrive20i which is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating 135kW and 290Nm. It’s capable of reaching 100km/h from rest in 8.3 seconds.
Across the range, drive is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. There is no rear wheel drive entry model at this stage, but give it time.
The xDrive20d uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 140kW and 400Nm of torque, for a 0-100km/h time of 8.0 seconds.
Apart from the engine, the specification level of the xDrive20i and xDrive20d are the same. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloys, LED headlights and taillights, adaptive suspension, head-up display, three-zone climate control, Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus.
As with the X2, BMW is offering the M Sport X package as a no-cost option on all variants except the M40i. The pack adds Frozen Grey design elements, M Sport adaptive suspension, M sport brakes, BMW Individual high-gloss ‘Shadow Line’ window surrounds and specific light alloy road wheels, measuring 19 inches on xDrive 20i and 20d variants, and 20 inches on the xDrive30i.
The xDrive30i gets a tuned up 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 185kW and 350Nm. There’s a bit more hustle here, it can hit triple figures from a standstill in 6.3 seconds.
For the first time, BMW will offer the X4 as an M Performance model and as such, the M40i gets a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six-cylinder petrol engine under the bonnet that produces 265kW power output and 500Nm of torque. It’s no slouch, reaching 100km/h in 4.8 seconds.
