HSV has released specifications and pricing for the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro which the Aussie brand will convert to right-hand drive.

To take ownership, American muscle enthusiasts will need to fork out $85,990 plus on-road costs. Softening the price is a very skinny options list, Metallic paint (Bright Yellow/Garnet Red Tintcoat/Hyper Blue) is the only box to tick and adds $850 to the price.

The Camaro’s headline act is the 6.2-litre LT1 V8 that develops to 339kW of power and 617Nm of torque. For context, the V8 in the significantly cheaper Ford Mustang produces 339kW and 556Nm.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Purists will need to exercise patience, initially, there will be no manual version.

The Camaro will feature independent rear suspension, front and rear Brembo brakes and 20-inch alloy wheels wearing 245/40ZR20 (front) and 275/35ZR20 (rear) Goodyear Eagle tyres.

On the inside, leather trim, power-adjustable heated and ventilated sports seats, dual-zone climate control, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system are standard. There’s also a powered sunroof.

Safety is a mixed bag, lane keep assist and blind-spot monitoring are included, but the Camaro misses out on autonomous emergency braking. Not a good look in a car at this price.

Keen buyers should note, only 550 units will be available in the first year.
