The 2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N has been revealed in Europe ahead of its official unveiling next week at the Paris motor show.

Hyundai is pitching the Fastback shape as an elegant alternative to the well-received i30 N hatch. It features the N Grille, N front and rear bumpers, both highlighted by a red character line, a blacked-out side sill, twin-muffler exhaust and rear spoiler that has been designed to flow neatly into the line of the liftback.

On the inside, there’s the N steering wheel with red N stitching which is also found on the gear shifter and seats.

As with the hatch, the cabin features the N instrument panel and a specific N mode menu offering customisable settings for the engine, rev-matching and exhaust note.

All the safety tech is on show with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, high beam assist, driver attention warning and intelligent speed limit warning as standard.

Opting for the Fastback over the hatch means a larger boot with 450-litres of space which expands to hold 1351 litres when the rear seatbacks are folded flat.

In European markets, the i30 Fastback N gets the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as the hatch in two states of tune. The Standard spec produces 184kW and 353Nm, while the Performance tune develops 202kW and 378Nm on overboost.

Like the hatch variant, Hyundai Australia is likely to only offer the higher-powered Performance tune. It can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is rated at 7.1L/100km.

Purists can get pumped, initially, the Fastback N will only be sold as a manual. Everyone else will need to wait patiently until the end of 2019 when an eight-speed dual-clutch will be available.

Australian specifications and pricing will be available closer to the local launch in the first quarter of 2019.
