Specifications and pricing for the updated 2019 Kia Sportage range have been detailed, the tweaked SUV arrives with additional features, a new transmission option and a starting price of $29,990 plus on-road costs.
The 2019 Kia Sportage line-up will include four trim levels – Si, Si Premium, SLi and GT-Line – with the choice of three engines.
Opening the engine offerings is a 2.0-litre MPI petrol engine capable of putting down 114kW and 192Nm, which will be available for Si, Si Premium and SLi models.
For a bit more power a 2.4-litre GDi petrol engine, offering 135kW and 237Nm is available on the GT-Line only.
Rounding out the engine options is a 2.0-litre R turbo-diesel capable of 136kW and 400Nm which is available in all grades.
Petrol models will be mated with a six-speed automatic gearbox, which in the 2.0-litre petrol Si, Si Premium and SLi models will send power to the front wheels.
The 2.4-litre GDI GT-Line gets the same six-speed box that distributes power to Kia’s on-demand AWD system.
All diesel engine models will also feature AWD but will utilise Kia’s new in-house eight-speed automatic transmission.
Kia’s suspension engineers have used revised bushing mount positions, as well as stiffer wheel bearings and bushings, to improve the ride quality.
Features equipped on the entry-level Si model include downhill brake control, hill start assist, rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, high beam assist, rain sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and smartphone mirroring in the form of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Moving to the Si Premium adds satellite navigation, front parking sensors, LED running lights, bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, DAB digital radio and an 8-speaker JBL premium sound system.
The SLi grade brings tyre pressure monitoring, smart key with push-button start, leather trim seats, 10-way driver adjustable seat, LED rear combination lamps and an electronic parking brake.
At the pointy end of the offerings, the GT-Line includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, 8-way powered front passenger seat, parking assist, panoramic sunroof, flat-bottomed leather sports wheel with gear-shift paddles, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate.
The exterior of the GT-Line features 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with auto levelling, LED fog lights and a GT-Line sports pack (bumpers, side sill and grille).
Across the range, only subtle styling changes have been made to the 2019 Sportage. This includes a revised taillight design, updated front and rear bumpers along with a fresh looking tiger-nose grille.
Five colour options are available for the Sportage with Clear White as standard whilst Steel Grey, Sparkling Silver, Fiery Red and Mercury Blue attract a $520 premium. Exclusively for GT-Line models Snow White Pearl and Cherry Black are also available.
