It was confirmed today that the new Ford Fiesta ST will be coming to Australia, buyers will need to be patient, the pocket rocket isn’t due until the second quarter of 2019.
The Fiesta ST will sit under the Ford Performance banner with the updated Mustang and the upcoming Ranger Raptor.
Powering the Fiesta ST will be a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost turbo petrol engine that develops 147kW of power and 290Nm of torque. Outputs are up 13kW and 50Nm respectively over the previous four-cylinder unit.
Purists will be pleased, power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission isn’t even an option. This is the reverse of what we have seen with the new Volkswagen Polo GTI.
“There is a strong appetite and passion for the Fiesta ST in our line-up, and can see the affinity and esteem that Australians have with driving enjoyment of the existing model,” said Ford Australia President and CEO, Graeme Whickman.
“Fiesta ST shows the depth of enthusiast models that we’re bringing to Australia, with everything from this hot hatch through to the Ranger Raptor.”
We have contcted Ford to determine if Australia will get both three and five-door variants of the new Fiesta ST.
Full Australian specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the Fiesta ST’s local launch. Stay tuned!
