After a rock star debut at the Detroit Motor Show, it has been confirmed the Ford Mustang Bullitt is coming to Australia.
This modern interpretation of the famous Ford arrives to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Steve McQueen film Bullitt.
Ford has pulled out all the stops to ensure the car pays proper homage to the 1968 original. Dark Highland Green exterior paint, classic torque thrust 19-inch alloy wheels, red painted Brembo brakes, black front grille, subtle chrome accents and ‘Bullitt’ badging make the car identifiable without seeking attention.
Inside the cabin, highlights include a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster with a green theme to match the exterior paint and a leather-trimmed interior with green stitching.
Buyers can option a Bullitt Electronics Package that features satellite navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. There’s also Recaro seats trimmed in black leather with green accent stitching and MagneRide semi-active suspension available.
Under the hood sits a re-tuned version of the 5.0-litre V8 found in the Mustang GT, it will output 354kW and 569Nm. In a bid to stick closely to the 1968 version, the new Bullitt is only available with a six-speed manual transmission with the gear knob shaped like a white cue ball as a nod to the original.
Ford claims the Mustang Bullitt is capable of 262km/h, which is 13km/h faster than the standard Mustang GT.
Other performance features include an active valve exhaust system with new Black NitroPlate tips, the Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration.
Ford has enjoyed considerable success with the Mustang, the pony car has resonated with Australian enthusiasts and become one of the nation’s most popular sports cars.
Local specifications and pricing for the Mustang Bullitt are yet to be confirmed by Ford Australia. Stay tuned.
