Hyundai has revealed its all-new Nexo hydrogen fuel cell SUV, which should be available in some global markets from early 2018. Also revealed at CES 2018 was new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that will feature on the Nexo.

Nexo is just another step in Hyundai’s plans for the development of low emission vehicles and the goal of delivering 12 eco-friendly models to global markets by 2025.

Key technology features Nexo will feature include Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM) which makes the rear and side views of Nexo visible on a centre cluster screen when changing lanes. Wide angle surround view monitors (SVM) are fitted to both sides of Nexo to show areas which may not be clearly visible in the rear view mirror.

Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Highway Driving Assist (HDA) are new technologies to debut in Nexo. LFA adjusts steering and centres Nexo in the lane up to speeds of 145km/h. HDA uses sensors and map data to regulate speed in limited environments.

Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) is the new technology allowing Nexo to park itself or retrieve itself from a park with or without the driving seat occupied. At the touch of a button, Nexo can even be backed into a parking spot on its own.

When compared with Hyundai’s first-generation fuel cell vehicle, the ix35 FCEV, Nexo boasts many upgrades, it is faster, more efficient and durable.

Nexo offers 95kw of power from the fuel cell and 40kw from the battery. The motor offers 120kW/394Nm which shifts Nexo from 0 to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds.

The estimated driving range based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is an impressive 800km and even more impressive is the claim that Nexo can be refuelled in less than 5 minutes.

Hyundai Australia will supply 20 Nexo fuel cell vehicles to the ACT Government as part of the Hornsdale Wind Farm project in early 2019.
