Land Rover has teamed up with the London Design Museum to offer visitors the chance to take a seat and commemorate 70 years of the Land Rover brand as the celebrations continue.

Known as the ‘Material Innovation’ installation, the atrium seating at the London museum has undergone a transformation being re-upholstered with 18 original materials used in Land Rover vehicles from 1948 up until today.

Original fabric from the first 1948 Land Rover, cloth designed with Sir Paul Smith for his 2015 special edition Land Rover Defender and an innovative and sustainable textile which was developed by Kvadrat for the Range Rover Velar are among the materials used and displayed.

Traditional ‘don’t touch’ museum rules have been thrown out the window as visitors are invited to experience the differences in quality of the fabrics for themselves.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, commented: "Land Rover materials and fabrics are rigorously tested to meet the exacting standards of our customers. This installation reflects the history of our seating from cloth to leather and includes our latest technical materials from Kvadrat in the new Range Rover Velar."

This ‘Material Innovation’ installation is the latest in a series of events for the 70th year celebrations of Land Rover.
