In a giant step toward the future, the new Nissan LEAF, one of the world’s most popular electric vehicles, will feature autonomous driving technology known as ProPILOT.

ProPILOT is designed to assist drivers in stop-and-go driving situations by assisting the controlling of acceleration, braking and steering during single-lane driving on highways, similar to adaptive cruise control in other brands. The ProPILOT technology is currently available on other models in the Nissan range including the Nissan Serena and more recently the Nissan X-Trail in the Japanese market.

Nissan expects that in the not-too-distant-future the technology will offer an even more increased level of autonomy and even be able to manoeuvre city driving scenarios.

Whether or not the technology can make driving safer and more enjoyable, which is at the core of the development, will remain to be seen, however.

Nissan is yet to release the Australian-market specifications and equipment for the new LEAF but is expected to do so closer to the local release.

Let’s start a Car Conversation, is the technology found in the new Nissan LEAF the way of the future? Would you trust it to keep you and your family safe?
