Audi aficionados can finally rejoice at the second coming of the Audi A5 and S5 Coupe which have finally touched down in Australia.  

 

The all-new second generation has been long awaited and promises to build on the original offering. Audi is claiming value is greatly improved with up to $26,000 in additional value across the brand new range.

 

Starting with the A5, an aggressive stance at the facade is realised via a three-dimensional Singleframe grille which is now wider and flatter. The bonnet features a central ‘power dome’ which is accentuated by symmetrically sculpted channels.

 

Complementing the improved sporty design is a reduction in weight. The A5 Coupe is now 40kg lighter whilst retaining its robustness, translating into the maximum 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

 

Speaking of safety, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), side assist, rearview camera and rear cross traffic alert are now standard across the A5 and S5 range.

 

On the underside three drivetrain options are available on the A5, a 2.0 TFSI S tronic, 2.0 TFSI quattro and 2.0 TDI quattro. Across the range, there are impressive fuel consumption, power and torque stats as would be expected in a second-generation Audi A5.

 

The S5 Coupe takes it to the next level. A shaving of 60kg of mass helps improve the performance of the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine.

 

Both the A5 and S5 models benefit from a newly developed five-link front and rear suspension which is standard and supported by adjustable adaptive dampers. The S5 gets 350mm ventilated front discs clamped by 6-piston callipers, whilst the A5 is equipped with internally vented discs up to 338mm in diameter.

 

Equipment levels are generous across the range, with the entry-level A5 2.0 TFSI getting18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, Audi virtual cockpit, MMI Navigation plus (with 10GB media storage and 2x SDHC slots), Audi connect with Audi smartphone interface, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio, convenience key and the 180w Audi sound system all as standard.
