As part of the Kansai VPP Project, Nissan Motor Company, Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and Sumitomo Electric Industries have joined forces and commenced testing tools able to charge electric vehicles via remote control.
Involved in the testing are 60 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are owned by customers and KEPCO, that will be fitted with an EV switch. The EV switch is a control instrument for electric vehicle charging technology which is being developed by KEPCO and Sumitomo Electric.
The servers at Nissan, KEPCO and Sumitomo Electric will be linked which will enable the remote-control charging as well as collect vehicle data and available charging capacity.
The goal is to build up technical knowledge as well as collect and analyse data to determine whether electric vehicles are viable power sources.
As Nissan is the maker of the world’s best-selling electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf which recently underwent an upgrade, they have partnered with KEPCO and Sumitomo Electric to work towards achieving a low-carbon transportation future, effective energy use and a stable electricity supply as electric vehicles become more prevalent.
