SsangYong has announced local specifications for the Musso dual-cab ute in the lead up to the brand’s Australian relaunch.

At first glance, the Musso (Korean for rhino) could find a place in the booming dual-cab market, if it’s priced correctly.

The Musso’s numbers are competitive, the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine develops 133kW of power and 400Nm of torque. Peak torque is available from only 1400rpm which should give the Musso the low down tactility fancied by most ute buyers. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is a respectable 8.6L/100km.

SsangYong will offer a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic that sends power to a part-time four-wheel-drive system with proper low-range gearing.

The Musso is rated to carry a 1-tonne payload and tow a maximum of 3.0-tonnes when equipped with the automatic transmission. Most big-name rivals can pull an additional 500kg.

Dimensionally, the Musso comes in at 5095mm long, 2175mm wide and 1840mm wide with a 3100mm wheelbase.

With the load bed measuring in at 1300x1570x570mm, SsangYong states the Musso’s tray can swallow a Euro pallet. Buyers who use their ute for more than obstructing vision in school car parks will be interested to know SsangYong plans to import a long wheelbase version of Musso that offers an additional 400mm to the length of the tray.

The tray will come standard with a heavy-duty liner, a 12V/120W power outlet and rotating hooks to secure the load.

The exterior styling is not as divisive as past SsangYong models, the lines and curves will be far more palatable for the mainstream.

Inside, the SsangYong claims the Musso will offer “excellent shoulder and legroom front and rear.” DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity feature across the range, however, buyers will need to head towards the higher trim levels to access the 8.0-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Remarkably, seats trimmed in nappa leather will be on the options list. It’s getting a little fancy!

Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, more information is expected in the lead up to the Musso’s local launch in November.
