As the tightening grip of the SUV craze sees sales of SUVs overtake passenger cars, a victim of decreasing sales has emerged, the Suzuki Celerio.
Suzuki Australia has announced that imports of the Celerio will stop. This does exclude Queensland however.
Decreased consumer demand in the Micro segment, which includes the new Kia Picanto, has been sighted as the reason for this decision.
Suzuki Australia Director of Automobiles Andrew Moore said, “Over the last few months we have been selling existing Celerio stock at a lower rate than planned, albeit still in line with the Micro segment, and consequently do not plan to import any further units this year.”
Mr. Moore has not ruled out reordering the model should market demand return, but Suzuki Australia will turn its attentions to the light segment in the meantime. Sales to private buyers in this segment have seen the manufacturer sitting as high as second position.
Micro car buyers and Suzuki fans shouldn’t be concerned, fortunately, the Japanese brand has a brilliant local portfolio at present, with cars like the new Ignis and Swift it’s still a good time to visit a Suzuki showroom.
