Toyota has lifted the veil on seven new concept cars, including a sports car, premium sedan and off-roader, which feature new renewable energy dependant powertrains and autonomous technology.
The seven concept cars offer something for everyone including the environment. There’s a step towards sustainability with the fuel-cell and battery-electric powertrains.
These seven concept vehicles include GR HV Sports Concept, Fine-Comfort Ride sedan, Sora concept bus, Concept-I, Concept-I RIDE, Concept-I WALK and Tj CRUISER.
Featuring an open-top to let your hair blow in the breeze the GR HV Sports concept has all the racing-inspired features with the hybrid powertrain likened to the one used by the GAZOO Racing TS050 Hybrid. It’s a front-engine, rear-drive layout with a centrally located hybrid battery that brings front-rear balance and a low centre of gravity for a sporty ride.
As discussed earlier this week the Fine-Comfort Ride sedan offers fuel-cell technology and peak performance with a top speed of 220km/h reported and the 100km/h dash from a standstill completed in 5.4 seconds.
Also discussed previously was the concept bus Sora which will come into existence prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games with more than 100 vehicles set for production.
The Concept-I, Concept-I RIDE and Concept-I WALK take the realm of the vehicle to a whole new dimension where cars understand people, recognise emotions and set the vehicle to the driver’s preferences all wrapped up with automated driving technology.
All three vehicles will feature AI Agent which monitors the driver and anticipates the needs in an attempt to increase safety.
The Concept-I RIDE is particularly focussed on mobility for wheelchair-bound individuals with features such as gull-wing doors, electric universal sliding seat, joystick in place of the steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals as well as a compact size.
Then there is the Tj CRUISER, the off-roader. It keeps the ‘lifestyle meets work ability’ mantra in mind. Aesthetically the Tj CRUISER is boxy with a square-shaped cabin and van-like rear with large opening sliding side doors. A ‘2.0-litre class’ comparable petrol hybrid powertrain moves the vehicle along, keeping with the green theme.
As was stated from the outset the offerings are diverse with a vehicle to suit just about everyone. The future of motoring will be a different landscape in the not-too-distant-future but Toyota has their finger firmly on the pulse of the possibilities of what is to come and is pioneering a way forward.
