Toyota has confirmed the production version of the born-again Supra will make its public debut at the 2019 Detroit motor show.
Developed alongside the new BMW Z4, the Supra will be offered with four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines.
At this stage, the only confirmed powerplant is a 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six which develops 220kW/450Nm and is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is suggested the 0 to 100km/h sprint will be completed in under five seconds.
BMW has already announced the Z4 (built in the same factory by Magna Steyr) will be offered in 20i, 30i and M40i specification at launch.
The new Supra will be the first vehicle sold in Australia to carry Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) branding, Toyota’s new performance sub-brand.
Toyota Australia has previously announced the Supra will be on sale in Australia towards the end of next year. Local specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the launch date. Stay tuned!
