Australian specs and pricing have been confirmed for the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 4Matic+ SUV.
Slotting underneath the GLE63 S, pricing for the GLE53 starts at $166,700 plus on-road costs.
Powering comes from a 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine which develops 320kW of power and 520Nm of torque. It also gets the brand’s 48V EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The starter generator can provide an additional 16kW and 250Nm over short bursts. A nine-speed transmission sends drive to all four wheels.
Mercedes-AMG claims a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 5.3 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Fuel economy is rated at 9.4L/100km on the combined cycle.
An AMG active exhaust system featuring a pair of twin outlets is standard, as is a high-performance braking system consisting of 400 x 36mm brake disks with two-piston calipers up front and 345 x 25mm with one-piston calipers at the rear.
AMG ride control+ air suspension is also fitted with adaptive adjustable damping ADS+ (adaptive damping system). The standard three preselect modes - Comfort, Sport and Sport+ - are joined by the new Trail and Sand off-road options.
Differentiating the GLE53 from the wider range is an AMG-specific 'Panamericana' grille, 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, and the Night Package which adds several trim enhancements in high-gloss black.
On the inside, standard kit includes the new Nappa leather AMG steering wheel, a Burmester surround sound system, panoramic sunroof, door sills with illuminated AMG lettering, memory settings for front seats, mirrors and steering wheel, heated front seats, wireless smartphone charging and ambient lighting.
The GLE53 also gets the MBUX infotainment system that runs on two 12.3-inch digital screens and features satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign monitoring and adaptive cruise control are also standard.
