Lexus has announced the arrival of the LC500 Morphic Blue Limited Edition which brings an exclusive paint colour and a bespoke interior to the flagship coupe.
The Morphic Blue Limited Edition is optionable on both the LC500 V8 and LC500h V6 hybrid priced at $192,500 before on-road costs, a premium of $2,500 over the regular starting price.
The car takes its name from the Morphic Blue paint, which Lexus says is the result of “15 years of painstaking advanced technology research” aimed at developing a finish that is deeper, more lustrous and more "blue" than anything seen before.
Painstakingly applied in seven layers, the inspiration for the colour comes from the shimmering blue wings of the American Morpho butterfly and incorporates 300 billion nano-structure pigment flakes. Lexus claims the phenomenon of iridescence is at play, it gives the impression that the colour is constantly changing with the light.
In order to guarantee the quality of the finish, Lexus undertakes 12 production steps and 20 quality inspections. Interestingly, Lexus points out conventional pigment paints reflect less than 50 per cent of incoming light as a visible blue colour, but with Morphic Blue reflects almost 100 per cent.
Lexus also notes, to fully appreciate the Morphic Blue paint, the car must be seen "in the flesh” as the full effect is only applicable to the human eye meaning it can't be seen through a camera lens.
It’s not just about the outside, the LC Limited Edition gets a unique cabin featuring semi-aniline leather accents and Alcantara with a Chrysalis Blue colour scheme that combines orange, blue and white hues. To kick things up a notch, the car also gets carbon-fibre scuff plates.
Potential buyers should also be aware, the Enhancement Pack consisting of Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), 10-way power-operated front seats, carbon fibre roof and active rear wing is not available with the Morphic Blue Limited Edition.
There is no word on the size of the production run, however, we suspect it will be available for the remainder of 2018.
