BMW Australia has announced specs and pricing for the new X3 M and X4 M Competition variants.
As is now the trend with Australian bound M models, only the high-grade Competition models will be available locally priced from $157,900 plus on-road costs for the X3 M and $164,900 plus on-roads for the X4 M.
M models are all about the numbers, both models are powered by a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine producing 375kW at 6250rpm and 600Nm which is available between 2600rpm and 5950rpm.
BMW M says the new engine features a forged crankshaft, two mono-scroll turbochargers and a cylinder head core manufactured using 3D printing technology.
An eight-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels. The system doesn’t utilise a conventional 50/50 torque split, it uses the rear-biased M xDrive setup from the M5.
Both the X3 M and X4 M Competition are capable of reaching 100km/h from a standing start in 4.1 seconds.
To dress things up a bit, the Competition models get a high-gloss black finish on the kidney grille surround, exterior mirror caps, M gills and the rear spoiler.
Standard equipment highlights include 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, an M Sport exhaust, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, Merino leather trim, front M Sport seats, a head-up display, wireless smartphone charging and a 16-speaker harman/kardon sound system.
A digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen are also included, however, they are not using BMW’s latest 7.0 operating system which is available on the larger X5 and the recently released 3 Series.
BMW’s Driving Assistant Plus package is also standard and adds lane departure warning, lane change warning, adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, front cross-traffic alert and lane keep assist with side collision warning.
The X3 M and X4 M Competition models are available to order now with deliveries to commence in August.
