Specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the 2019 BMW X7 ahead of a local showroom arrival in May.
At launch, two diesel variants will be available – the xDrive30d priced from $119,900 plus on-roads and the M50d priced from $169,900 plus on-roads.
Power in the xDrive30d comes from a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel producing 195kW of power and 620Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic sends drive to all four wheels. BMW claims the 0-100km/h takes 7.0 seconds.
The range-topping M50d gets a 3.0-litre quad-turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel engine that generates 294kW and 760Nm, it can accelerate to triple figures from a standstill in 5.4 seconds.
For now, Australia misses out on the petrol powered xDrive40i (250kW/450Nm) and xDrive50i V8 (340kW/650Nm) which are available in other markets.
In the unlikely event X7 owners want to get their car dirty, it’s fitted with two-axle air suspension with automatic self-levelling and an adjustable ride height range of 80mm. A variety of off-road driving modes are also part of the deal.
Dimensionally, the X7 measures in at 5151mm long, 2000mm wide and 1805mm high with a 3105mm wheelbase. With the third row seats in place the luggage capacity is a modest 326 litres, however, this can be increased to a maximum of 2120 litres with the second and third rows folded flat.
Externally, the front end is dominated by a comically sized kidney grille, BMW claims it’s the largest in the brand’s history. LED headlights, 20-inch light-alloy wheels and a two-section split tailgate are all standard.
BMW is quick to spruik the roominess and versatility of the interior. Third-row passengers get full-size seats complete with armrests, cupholders and USB ports.
The brand’s latest Operating System 7.0 and BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two 12.3-inch digital display screens are also standard equipment.
In terms of safety kit, the new BMW Personal CoPilot is included with driver assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian warning.
Emergency Stop Assistant is also new, it has been designed for situations where the driver becomes incapacitated. If the worst happens, a passenger can activate the system by pulling the electric parking brake switch which will bring the vehicle to a standstill either in the current lane or on the side of the road. Any necessary lane-change manoeuvres can be performed automatically when travelling at 70-100km/h.
The 2019 BMW X7 is available to order now with deliveries commencing in May.
