HSV has announced the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is joining its local range priced from $159,990 plus on-road costs.
The ZL1 is Chevrolet’s most powerful performance production Camaro thanks to a 6.2-litre supercharged LT4 V8 engine, precise outputs are yet to be confirmed, however, HSV says to expect something in the ‘vicinity’ of 480kW and 860Nm.
Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual as standard or an optional 10-speed automatic. HSV is yet to reveal the 0 to 100km/h sprint time or the top speed.
Sitting behind the 20-inch forged alloy wheels is a “track-inspired” Brembo brake package with six-piston monobloc front calipers and 390mm x 36mm two-piece front rotors for superior stopping performance and reduced fade.
Magnetic ride control dampers, an electronically controlled limited slip differential, bi-modal performance exhaust system are all included as standard.
Differentiating the ZL1 from the 2SS is a unique bonnet, a carbon-fibre composite hood air extractor, a wing-style rear spoiler, along with an aggressive front splitter and rocker mouldings.
The cabin gets electronically-adjustable Recaro performance bucket seats that are heated and ventilated, black leather and microfiber trim, a suede flat-bottom sports steering wheel and alloy sports pedals.
Also included is Chevrolet’s next-generation Infotainment 3 system which includes an 8.0-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Dual-zone automatic climate control, a nine-speaker Bose premium audio and an ambient lighting package round out the interior equipment highlights.
Moving to safety, the ZL1 comes standard with forward collision warning, head-up display, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, rear park assist and a rear-view camera.
The very clever rear camera mirror is also included which offers the driver a less obstructed view than what is available out of the small rear window.
HSV’s Managing Director Tim Jackson said: “HSV has always had a history steeped in high-performance and the introduction of the ZL1 – the most powerful production Camaro available in the world - really sings to HSV’s heritage. We’re sure the GM faithful, and performance enthusiasts alike, will be excited by our latest move.”
Local re-manufacturing of the ZL1 with the 10-speed automatic is set to commence in April, while vehicles equipped with the six-speed manual to kick-off in May.
