Specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class range, a new powertrain and more standard safety tech headline the changes.
All E-Class variants will now be fitted with Driver Assistance Package PLUS, which includes enhanced traffic sign assist that works with the adaptive cruise control system.
As with the recently updated C-Class, the cabin gets a new steering wheel that includes cruise control and updated touch-sensitive buttons.
E200 and E220d models now feature adaptive high beam assist as standard, while the E300 has been discontinued.
For a limited time, E200 and E220d buyers can option a Sport Edition package for $10,500 which brings a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, Burmester sound system, AMG body styling, 20-inch AMG alloys, leather upholstery, heated front seats and metallic paint.
The E350d gets a new 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 210kW (up from 190kW), while the E450 gets a revised 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 which now develops 270kW and 500Nm (up 25kW and 20Nm).
New to the range is the AMG E53 4Matic+ which is available as a sedan, coupe or cabriolet. It’s powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine producing 320kW and 520Nm. It also uses a 48V mild-hybrid system. Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed transmission.
Standard kit includes a switchable AMG Performance exhaust system, 20-inch alloy wheels, Burmester surround sound system, nappa leather upholstery, front sports seats and sports steering wheel, and AMG exterior styling including a spoiler lip on the boot lid.
A panoramic glass sunroof is fitted to sedan and coupe variants, while the cabriolet scores an acoustic soft-top, Aircap draught stopping system and Airscarf neck-level heating for the front seats.
