Details of the updated 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV have been revealed ahead of an Australian launch later this year.
 
Styling updates for the new GLC include a wider and sportier appearance, chrome elements from top to tail, redesigned LED high-performance headlamps with torch-design DRLs, redesigned full LED tail lamps and a heavily contoured grille.
 
Graphite Grey has been added to the colour palette as well as a range of new wheels ranging in diameter from 17- to 19-inches with tyres featuring optimised rolling resistance.
 
Internally a larger touchscreen multimedia display, available as a 7- or 10.25-inch screen, runs the latest generation MBUX system.
 
Two versions of the multifunction steering wheel have been updated and allow control of the active distance assist distronic and touch control buttons. Energizing comfort control is also available as is augmented video.
 
Driving assistance systems are bolstered by the addition of active steer assist, active brake assist, exit warning function and emergency corridor function.
 
New petrol and diesel engines will be available which offer greater output and increased efficiency. The GLC200 and GLC300 have the M274 engine replaced by the new M264 four-cylinder petrol engine offering 145kW and 190kW respectively with 280Nm and 370Nm and are equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive. They also feature the 48V starter/generator system which adds 10kW of electric power boost.
 
The OM651 engine has also been replaced by the OM654 four-cylinder diesel engine. The GLC200d offers 120kW/360Nm, the GLC220d produces a bit more with 143kW/400Nm and the GLC300d develops 180kW/500Nm. They also feature the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
 
All engines are mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
 
The updated GLC also comes equipped with the dynamic body control suspension with adjustable dampers on the front and rear axle.
 
A new off-road engineering package and dynamic select system with expanded functions is also fitted to the GLC aiding its off-road prowess.
 
The updated Mercedes-Benz GLC is expected to arrive Down Under towards the end of 2019 with local pricing and specification to be revealed closer to launch. Stay tuned!
