Specifications and pricing for the 2019 Mini Countryman Plug-In Hybrid have been revealed, the first local Mini to utilise an electrified powertrain is priced from $57,200 plus on-road costs.

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.5-litre 100kW/220Nm three-cylinder petrol up front, combined with a 65kW/165Nm electric motor driven by a 7.6kWh battery pack at the rear.

The powertrain’s total output is rated at 165kW of power and 385Nm of torque which is put down through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mini claims fuel consumption on the combined cycle is a minuscule 2.1L/100km while the 0-100km/h dash takes 6.9 seconds.

With a fully charged battery, a fully-electric driving range of up to 40km is possible. While on the battery, it has been mounted low in the vehicle for minimal dynamic disturbance and optimal weight distribution. For those who are wondering, the battery pack is covered by a six year/100,000km warranty.

Charging times for the Countryman Plug-In Hybrid are quoted at 3 hours and 15 minutes via a regular household socket which can be reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes with the Mini Wallbox installed.

The car is equipped with a variety of drive modes to maximise the efficiency and performance. The default Auto eDrive uses both petrol and electric power while Max eDrive can use the available electric power up to 125km/h. There is also a Save Battery mode which recharges the battery to 90 per cent capacity to be used when the driving situation dictates.

18-inch light alloy wheels in silver ‘Pin Spoke’ design, LED headlights, body-coloured roof and mirrors, rear roof spoiler, chrome side scuttles and exhaust tip along with unique badging are standard.

The cabin gets leatherette-upholstered sports seats in Carbon Black, a leather sports steering wheel, a Satellite Grey roofline, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, a six-speaker HiFi system, wireless phone charging and an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and DAB+ digital radio.

Standard safety kit includes city autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active cruise control with stop & go, forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and a speed limiter.
