The all-new 2019 Peugeot 208 hatch has been revealed with a pure-electric variant ahead of a public debut at this year’s Geneva motor show.
The 208 in EV form (e-208) gets 100kW of power and 260Nm of torque from the electric motor and 50kWh battery. According to the WLTP test cycle, 340km of electric range is possible.
Changing the battery to 80 per cent capacity is possible in 30 minutes if the right charge station is available. With a Wall Box a full charge takes just over five hours.
Interestingly, the battery is guaranteed for eight years or 160,000 km for 70 per cent of its charge capacity.
Along with the EV option, European buyers also have the choice of petrol or diesel power.
There are three 1.2-litre petrol engines offering 56kW, 75kW and 97kW. The entry-level engine is paired with a five-speed manual, the middle child gets either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, while the flagship is exclusively equipped with an eight-speed automatic.
The lone diesel engine is a 1.5-litre 75kW four-cylinder unit matched with a six-speed manual transmission. No auto to be seen here.
In terms of design, the 208 features a longer, wider and lower silhouette with full LED three-claw signature headlights, single contour front bumper and single outlet radiator grille.
Higher grades also feature glossy black wheel arch flaring with 17-inch wheel rims with screw-in, customisable inserts as well as a black roof lining with Adamite overstitching, eight ambient lighting colour options, sport seats and aluminium pedals.
The e-208 GT variants get Alcantara/Greval grey upholstery in association with 3D technical mesh knit and 17-inch wheel rims with special inserts.
Peugeot’s i-Cockpit will be included which brings a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, satellite navigation, digital radio along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane positioning assistance, park assist, lane keeping assist, driver attention monitoring, automatic headlight dipping, extended traffic sign recognition and active blind spot monitoring are available across the range.
The 2019 Peugeot 208 is expected to be available from Autumn 2019 in Europe though no official Australian launch date, specifications or pricing has been confirmed thus far. Stay tuned!
