Peugeot has announced a 508 Hybrid and 3008 Hybrid4, both models use a plug-in hybrid system and will be available in European markets during the second quarter of 2019.
The 508 Hybrid will be available in sedan and wagon body styles with power coming from a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 132kW, it’s matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an 80kW electric motor. The system’s total power output is rated at 165kW.
When the 11.8kWh battery pack is fully charged, Peugeot claims the 508 is capable of approximately 40km of pure-electric range with a top EV speed of 135km/h. Fuel economy is quoted at an optimistic 2.1L/100km.
Moving to the 3008 Hybrid4 SUV, it also uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine, however, in this application it develops 147kW. The 3008 gets two 80kW electric motors, the first is linked to the eight-speed gearbox while the second is mounted to the rear axle making the car all-wheel drive. The total power output increases to 221kW.
The Hybrid4 system gets a larger 13.2kWh battery pack, fully charged it offers up to 50km of all-electric driving. Peugeot claims the 3008 Hybrid4 can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in a respectable 6.5 seconds.
Both models can be charged in around seven hours with a standard plug, a 14A plug can do the job in four hours while the optional 32A wallbox can deliver a full charge in 105 minutes.
Peugeot Australia is yet to confirm whether or not the 508 and 3008 Hybrids will make it to local showrooms.
