Peugeot Australia has confirmed the all-new 2019 508 Touring will launch Down Under in the latter half of next year, joining the 508 fastback.
The new 508 range is built on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2) platform allowing the car to shed up to 70kg. A new exterior design and Peugeot i-Cockpit will also feature.
Peugeot Australia Managing Director, Ben Farlow, said: “Over the past five-years, Peugeot has completely reinvented its product range and the all-new 508 will challenge segment norms while delivering a vehicle that is not just enjoyable to drive, but great to look at.”
For the Australian range, both body styles will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 135kW or 168kW of power, depending on the variant. The engine will be mated with an all-new Aisin-designed eight-speed automatic transmission.
The powertrain, combined with the new platform, should provide an impressive power-to-weight ratio. Variants with the larger power output will boast an 8.41kg/kW power-to-weight ratio whilst a 10.67kg/kW power-to-weight ratio is achieved by the lower output engine.
The final model line-up is still to be confirmed as is pricing and specifications which are expected closer to the launch in the second half of 2019.
