Local specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the 2019 Porsche Macan S which will be available in the first quarter of next year, priced from $97,500 plus on-road costs.
The S will join the entry-level Macan which was priced in October. The most notable difference is what resides under the bonnet. The Macan S gets a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine offering 260kW and 480Nm, which represents a 10kW/20Nm increase over the outgoing model. When compared to the base Macan, the S offers an additional 80kW and 110Nm.
Porsche is quoting a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 254km/h if the optional Chrono Package is fitted.
Staggered tyres are used as well as the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system which has been overhauled for increased performance.
Spring forks made from aluminium replace steel components on the front axle making the design lighter and stronger, which in turn should make the steering more precise with improved ride comfort.
Attention has been given to the brakes, Porsche says the new set up has a different pedal feel than previous versions. They are lighter and now act on the brake master cylinder via a shortened lever arm to improve braking response.
The front disc brakes are also larger by 10mm at 360mm with disc thickness growing 2 mm to 36mm. The new brake pads are also copper-free and there is the option of moving to the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).
The Macan S also includes a three-dimensional LED light strip at the rear, new LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, a surround-view camera and parking sensors.
On the inside, standard kit includes 14-way adjustable comfort seats and the fully networked Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a larger 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and DAB radio.
The new 2019 Porsche Macan S is available to order now starting from $97,500 plus on-road costs with the first deliveries expected in Australia in the first quarter of 2019.
