Renault Australia has expanded the Megane RS range with the addition of a Cup chassis model equipped with an automatic transmission priced from $51,990 plus on-road costs.

The French marque has streamlined the range and changed the naming structure which sees the RS 280 label replaced by Turbo Sport and Turbo Cup.

The Cup chassis model with the option of the EDC automatic (Efficient Dual Clutch) should broaden the car’s appeal. Cup variants are 10 per cent stiffer thanks to revised springs, dampers and bump stops.

Wider updates to the range include the addition of a Bose audio system and Alcantara/leather seat trim as standard on all models except the Sport manual.

Other equipment highlights include front, rear and side parking sensors, a rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and an 8.7-inch portrait touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is unchanged, it produces 205kW and 390Nm. Power is sent to the front axle through a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

All Megane RS variants are now backed by a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty as standard.
