Renault Australia has launched the 2019 Trafic Trader Life which at $29,990 drive-away (ABN holders) will be the price leader in the brand’s local van range.
The Trafic Trader Life is a short wheelbase Trafic which, according to Renault, has been launched “in response to the demand for a delivery or small business van focused on minimum cost of ownership.”
As the entry-model, the Trader Life is powered by a single-turbo 1.6-litre diesel engine which produces 66kW and 260Nm. Peak torque is available from 1500rpm while the combined fuel economy is rated at 6.2L/100km. The payload is 1235kg, with a towing capacity of 2 tonnes.
Renault says (quite rightly) the Trader Life will favour an urban setting where high performance is less important than low running costs.
Like all Trafic models, the Trader Life is offered with a manual gearbox only. Being an urban dweller, an automatic option might be appreciated.
There is seating for three, a steering wheel with reach and height adjustment and lumbar support for the driver.
Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control with speed limiter and air conditioning are all standard.
The Trader Life is offered in a single specification that includes a LH side sliding door and lift-up tailgate. Also, buyers can order any colour they like, so long as it’s Glacier White.
There are no factory options available, however, Renault dealers can still provide a large range of locally fitted accessories.
Disappointingly, the Trader Life only comes with two airbags, other variants get five. It’s hard to get excited about the sharp pricing without side protection.
In keeping with the minimum cost of ownership theme, the first three services have a capped price of $549. The maintenence intervals are set at a generous 12 months/30,000km while the warranty coverage is three years/unlimited kilometres. Renault offers up to four years roadside assistance when servicing is done by the dealer network.
