Toyota Australia has announced the Corolla SX and ZR will get a safety boost before the end of 2019.

From November, the SX and ZR hatchbacks will feature the parking support brake (PKSB) system. The tech uses sensors to detect both static objects and crossing vehicles behind the car that pose a potential hazard, it can suppress the driving force and apply the brakes from a standstill up to speeds of 15km/h in two stages. Rear cross-traffic alert is also included.

The parking support brake (PKSB) joins autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera as part of the Corolla’s safety package.

The range-topping ZR variant will also be available with two-tone colourways that add a black roof, pillars and hatch-top spoiler with a choice of Crystal Pearl, Volcanic Red, Oxide Bronze, Silver Pearl, Eclectic Blue or the all-new Feverish Red body colours.

Feverish Red can be optioned on the Ascent Sport and mid-range SX variants as well.

ZR variants also gain an eight-way power driver's seat, while buyers of the Corolla Ascent Sport petrol model can specify a tyre repair kit to replace the standard full-size alloy spare wheel, increasing the boot capacity by 116 litres to 333 litres.

The updated Corolla will be available from November.
