Local specifications and pricing have been announced for the new 2019 Toyota HiAce range ahead of a mid-year arrival.
A new platform, engines, safety features and a lengthy standard equipment list are the headline acts for the first new HiAce in 15 years. Pricing starts at $38,640 plus on-road costs for the nine-model range.
The new platform has allowed the HiAce to grow. Both long wheelbase and super long wheelbase versions are wider and longer than the outgoing model.
Measuring 5265mm in length, the new HiAce LWB models are 570mm longer than the previous equivalent model and sit on a wheelbase that has been extended by 640mm to 3210mm. HiAce SLWB models are 535mm longer than the previous generation sitting on a 750mm longer wheelbase that measures 3860mm.
To improve ride and handling, the front and rear tracks are also wider with both versions sharing a 1670mm front and rear track – an increase of 200mm at the front and 205mm at the rear for LWB models and 15mm at the front and 20mm at the rear in SLWB variants.
Both wheelbase versions are 1950mm wide overall – an increase of 255mm for the LWB variants and 70mm for SLWB models.
Overall height is similar to the previous model HiAce with the LWB versions being 10mm higher at 1990mm and the SLWB Van and Commuter sitting 5mm lower at 2280mm.

Kicking off the range is the long wheelbase (LWB) van available with a 3.5-litre 207kW/351Nm V6 petrol or a 2.8-litre 130kW/420-450Nm four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, both are available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The LWB Crew Van adds a second row of seats to be able to carry five. It is available with a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine sending power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Priced from $48,640 plus on-road costs the super long wheelbase (SLWB) van is an automatic-only proposition available with either a petrol or turbodiesel engine and 9.0 cubic meters of cargo space.
Also available is a passenger variant with two grades of the Commuter which are both powered by the turbodiesel engine with an automatic transmission.
An extensive array of standard driver assistance technologies are also included as part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite. Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist and auto high beam are all standard.
In addition cruise control, anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and up to nine airbags (depending on the model) are also on the spec sheet.
For comfort and convenience, all models feature a height-adjustable driver's seat, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, manual air conditioning and extensive storage areas with big front door bins and 1.5-litre bottle holders. The steering wheel also has controls for the audio, infotainment and cruise control systems for added convenience.
In terms of infotainment, the latest generation of Toyota’s multimedia system displayed on a 7.0-inch touchscreen is included with AM/FM/DAB+ radio, CD player Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX inputs, satellite navigation with SUNA live traffic alerts, and voice recognition, Siri eyes-free for compatible iPhones and Toyota Link apps.
The passenger variants also include reclining seat backs, front and rear interior lights, rear air conditioning with vents for every seat position and floor carpet throughout.
There is also a $1000 option pack available for turbodiesel vans (standard on the Crew Van) which brings body-coloured front and rear bumpers and door handles, halogen front fog lights and front and rear chrome trim on the outside as well as an auto-dimming digital rear view mirror that can display images from the vehicle's rear-view camera on the inside.
The 2019 Toyota HiAce range will be available in Australia from the middle of the year. A detailed run down of included equipment can be found below.
